A comment to a friend while IM'ing...

I just realised something. JKR really separated Gryffindor out in the shield images. If you look at them, Gryffindor has a bright (gold) animal in a shield with a gold edge. All the rest are dark animals (black raven, black and white badger, and dark green snake) in shields with black edges. hmm....

If you go down the page you'll see all four shields together. The closest is the Hufflepuff shield with its cheery yellow background. Ravenclaws, though, are too smart and Slytherins too sneaky, and are eeeevil.

Starting to think I should change my profile to 'Actually does write fanfic now and then...'

JKR really does favor Gryffindor over the other three houses and the heraldry she devised for the four houses is visual proof. She also used that usual trope of dark = evil or undesirable, though I've no idea why high intelligence, in and of itself, would ever be considered innately evil or undesirable. *shrugs*
